Expanded Polystyrene Tiles

Hi, I had a very high ceiling in my kitchen and many years ago I lowered it by adding a framework of expanded polystyrene tiles. We had a leak in the bathroom directly above the kitchen. Long story short, one of the panels got wet and fell down. I replaced it with a brand new panel but it’s bright white and stands out like a sore thumb. Does anyone know if this type can be painted and if so, do you need to use a special sort of flame-retardant paint? Is it best to paint them with a roller, or can they be spray-painted?

Hi Mike, one of our members has come back to stay that those particular tiles can be painted with regular emulsion paint. Hope that helps. Angela

That’s great Angela. Others have come back and told us the same thing. They say also that for safety reasons gloss paint should be avoided. They have also advised us to spray it for a better finish, rather than use a roller.

    Many thanks for your advice.

I am really happy that I joined TImebank Ireland even though we are based here in London.
